Raoul - Bacchus is Roman - the Greek equivilent is Dionysos (I think)

It’s early days yet. The game isn’t planned until January.
However discord is something I’m after!
Thats fine with me. Its the same thing, with a different name. Bloody romans and their Pantheon stealing ways.
I just made up a hoplite style helm. It’s made from 1/3 of a camp mat from the Warehouse that cost $7.99 and some glue and paint I already had
Was that based on a photo? Would be interested to see it, I’ve never seen a helm quite like that. Although the whole penis-headed look seems quite popular with the Corinthians:
Did you join it at the chin to get the cheek curves happening? Did I mention that I read a description of how you can get closed cell foam sheets to stay curved by putting them in a oven on very low heat and then bending them over a former while they cool?
I’m keen to be part of this, and since the goddesses have already been dibsed, I’ll be a hamadryad (nymph of an oak tree) or Echidna (the ‘mother of all monsters’, half-woman half-snake).
Okay, I’m definitely keen on Hades. I even know why he would want the prize.
Anyone wants to play Charon?
How about Cerberus, the 3-headed dog who guards the Underworld? I was thinking that if Craig was willing to lend his werewolf costume, all you’d need is to make a couple more heads and stick them on either side.
Maybe Hades could sent Cerberus and Charon out into the world to try to help win the competition.
Or alternatively, maybe I could play Cerberus myself on breaks from being Hades?
No. Not based on any extant helmet. Though it is somewhere between lots of surviving pieces. The rounded opening around the mouth is probably incorrect, but connecting at the chin is fine.
Correct. That’s the only reason I did it.
I must try that too then!
I should stress that it suggested a VERY LOW temperature. So low that apparently you can take the foam out of the oven and form it over your bare skin, even your face.
If you want to shape plastezote, put your oven on a low heat and stick the cut piece of plastezote sheet you want to curve in. Leave it for a minute and keep checking but DONT FORGET ABOUT IT!
You will find when you take it out that the foam has become very floppy, you have a few seconds to shape it over whatever object you want, hold it in place and once it properly cools, voilla! it remains that shape.

You really don’t need to get the foam hot enough to worry about the heat harming you. Basically a very low heat oven is fine, when the foam comes out it is very warm but floppy to the touch. You can put it straight onto bare flesh without problem*. Years ago I made the Maar the Faceless “you ripped those off from star wars” emperor bodyguard facemasks by moulding foam to my face in this way. Warm in oven, drop on face, allow to cool = instant face shaped foam.
*Pick the foam up. If it is a gooey sodden mass of molten plastic, it is too hot. Do not put it on your face. If you do and cause major burns to your face it is your fault, not mine.
Cool! Thanks for that Ryan. I’ll have a play with it tomorrow evening and see what happens…
There are some good roles available for anybody with musical talent with any kind of vaugly Greek instruments (including voice). Music plays an important part of every culture and the Greeks are no exception.
I may have a fantastic venue lined up for this. I have to get pricing and booking details, but it’s an exceptional site. I’m going to keep it secret though until closer to the date because I can!
Still looking for one more person to help, mostly with building plot related stuff.
I’d also like some people to stick their hands up. I need them to attend a workshop where they learn how to make the hoplite helm and greaves and then either make several sets or run a workshop where people can do this. These helms are very easy to make. They take longer to paint than they do to cut out and glue together.
I’d really like to get 20 people in hoplite helmets for this game. 4-5 just won’t cut it in my books.
I volunteer for making stuff. But it depends entirly on when it would be.
Me too. Craftiness is all good.
volunteers for singing
I said I could take on any role, and I can sing reasonably well…
I don’t mind when you make stuff
Are you (or any volunteers) free Monday or Wednesday evenings and able to make it to Albany?
I may even be able to feed you!
Is this game going to run under LARPS, do you think? With all the gear being made, it’d be lovely if it could get funded and go into the equipment pool so that it gets plenty of use at other games too.
Works for me. I don’t really need any more stuff in my garage and I certainly don’t want to spend too much on making any more than my own costume.
When I have a date and venue sorted, I will present a buget to LARPS and they can decide what they want to do about it.
I’ve suggested we make the first working agreement in early December. IMHO this game is an ideal candidate to run under the LARPS banner. Would, say, 10 December be quick enough?
Probably. My main concern is having money to book the site, but I can probably cover that because I have a mortguage*.
