It is August 1965.

75,000 American troops are fighting in Vietnam. “The Sound of Music” tops the American box office. Russian cosmonaut Alexi Leonov becomes the first man to walk in space. Canada adopts a new maple leaf flag. Mariner 4 sends back the first photographs of Mars. The BBC cancels a documentary on the effects of nuclear war as being “too horrifying”. The PDP-8 becomes the world’s first commerical minicomputer. Roger Penrose publishes a paper on gravitational collapse and space-time singularities.

And yesterday, the residents of Millville in Grant County, Wisconsin (pop. 164) woke to discover a mysterious barrier around their village. Through trial and error, they found that the barrier lets no life pass through it – only inanimate objects.

Yesterday evening, a short article about the barrier appeared on page 3 of the Fennimore Herald.

Today, at lunchtime, Senator Wilson and representatives of the federal government meet with the mayor of Millville in a large tent erected across the barrier on the road to Bridgeport.

The barrier itself is invisible but stretchy. Trying to walk through it is like trying to walk while being pulled back by elastic bands. Eventually, the force is too great and throws you back.

All Flesh is Grass is a freeform larp for 13 players by Steve Hatherley. All characters are gender neutral. The game is expected to last for approximately 2 hours, with a ~100 minute main scene and a ~20 minute epilogue scene. The game has an outdoor setting, and it is hoped that the weather will permit us to use the gardens of the venue; otherwise there is a hall.

Casting will take place around the second weekend of November, in order for people to sort out costumes. Full character sheets will be sent a week out from the game. Any profit from the game will be donated to NZLARPS.
