Akasha Costume

So I’m thinking of making a costume. I love what Akasha from the movie, Queen of the Damned (Aaliyah) is wearing, and would like to give it a go at making it. Question would be, what sort of event could I wear it at? No use in making something if it’s only going to sit there and look pretty. Haha.

What do you guys think?

For those who don’t know, here’s a small picture.

Fantasy LARP, oh hell yes! Furture LARP, yep! Period LARP, why not?!
Hell the orcs have white sneakers in Hamilton so that kind of costume wouldn’t go amiss in any LARP I can think of.

Haha. It’s one thing it won’t go amiss, another that it actually fits with anything.

Though it would be awesome to RP a vampire queen don’t ya think?

But yeah…fantasy could fit.

Just need to find one which suits it, and I’d better get to work.

(Not looking forward to the beading -dies-)

Never mind the genre, I would vote for it being a SUMMERTIME larp :stuck_out_tongue:

The whole Vampire Queen of the Night thing in that getup just means y’all’ll freeze your **@& off at any other time of year.

Pretty cool tho.

I’m sure St Wolfgang could find a use for someone dressed like that in the crew.

Definitely. :smiling_imp: Come to the dark side.

Haha. Yes, will definitely need to be a summertime LARP, and I’d probably need a little bit of encouragement to actually dress like that (I’m rather self concious sometimes!). But it could be fun!

And I’d be happy to crew for the St Wolfgang team

I think you might need some glue.

Good luck with the beading.

Eyelash glue, or inch wide double sided tape. Or so I’ve been told.

Or spirit gum, if you feel like getting that stuff on you

On the side, Quest gives a HP bonus for good costuming… small incentive to have good costume.
Personally I’d give you double for turning up in that… theres a sick tradition that if someone turns up in a chainmail bikini they recieve an automatic 10HP (male or female) & that costume would almost trump that.
Tacky, but thank Conan & roleplaying art for that.

Hahaha. Funny how all the secrets come out now :stuck_out_tongue:

HA HA HA  do you know how long i have waited for someone to play the D&D three chain mail link rule of Female armouring, yes go for it girl DO IT please and hide it under a cloak until the right moment, then do a big reveal and Slay all the stunned geekboys before they realise what just happened.

Haha. Love it.

I need to find something to look like metal particularly for the arm bracers, crown and the top, cause I can’t work with metal. Any ideas? For the neckpiece and the belt I can just use metal beds.

I have some 0.8mm stainless steel which would be ideal because it’ll polish up nicely and never rust. If you make up templates in light card the shape you want, I’m happy to cut out pieces and do some basic shaping (i.e. lightly “dish” the pieces so they are body shaped) clean up the edges and punch holes for straps. I’m sure you can then take them away and finish them.

The costume doesn’t look like it’ll use much metal  so I’m sure we can get it out of scraps that I’d normally throw in the bin.

No, fortunately it doesn’t. That’d be awesome if you could do that Derek! I’ll do everything else first which needs to be done, then suss out the metal parts later  I’ll email you when I’m ready? How much would you want for it?

Probably nothing. I’ll probably only be using scraps and I don’t expect it’ll take more than a couple of hours… some beer maybe?

Haha. Done! Thanks so much! I’ll let you know when I’ve got things sorted.

Looking at the picture, you could take the quick non-Permanent body art approach to a fair amout of the costumre.
There are a number of people in the larping community who could paint you up, Clare, Nikki or Lucy all have experience for example.

Thanks, but most of the reason I want to make it would be the fun in making it
