I’ve had a thought.
Why have a cost for membership of NZLARPS? Why not just let anyone join for free, and then take the operating costs out of money made by NZLARPS projects?
Obviously we’re already committed to the paid-membership-and-discounts model for this year, but it’s a thought for next year.
I think it would be a lot simpler operationally than taking in money for memberships and offering discounts on events. We’re already taking money for events, why not make that the only point of sale?
Downsides:
- less up-front cash, but really the same amount in the long run.
- more difficult to handle associate discounts if anyone can join for free. If associate discounts exist, some people might join just for them and not actually attend events, so giving no benefit to NZLARPS.
Generally a society of group will have a membership fee as a fund raising thing. Its one of the ways to raise funds with out having to do a hell of a lot of work. Its smpler than a sausge sizzle, less hass than begging, and there are bound other good reasons to do it.
But then LARPS dosnt need the initial cash injection that member shpi fee would give it, owing to the fct that it dosnt have over heads. There isnt a head quarters to pay for, no letter heads to buy, or official stamps, or even postage for the memebrs.
What n interesting point yo have brought up Ryan. I reall yonly joined to get a Paddywhack discount, but I have yet to use it, so Ihavnt mad eback my fiver yet. Soon, I hope.

There are overheads, I just thought they could be paid for from society-run project participation fees (e.g. things like Mordavia) rather than membership. It’s simpler, but has some downsides.
I hope you use the Paddywhack discount too. 
But even if you don’t, players will get $5 off the next Mordavia game if they’re members of the society. So you’ll get your money back there.

Og game is likely to be later due to my life being rather full, and us not yet having a gear workshop to make clubs and costumes. I need help! I also need to get Chantal to give me a price for making a basic Og costume that I can offer to players.
Cathy takes up an amazingly huge amount of time, and we are likely to be miving house (again) in February and then flying to Taiwan in March…
