I saw this on the DIY referendum generator tonight:

Given that its 100% against, I guess their readers are theatreformers.
Or they like foam weapons, but don’t like big fat boffer weapons.
It’s almost like that question was intended to be ambiguous and misleading.
Who’d have thunk it?

The community has said “we don’t like larp with foam weapons”. Or perhaps it has said “we like larp with nice slim foam weapons, not big fat boffers”. Or “why do there need to be laws for larp?” We’ll never know which.
Or the LARP community who did vote were smart enough to realise that 3 inches of foam isn’t enough to stop a cricket bat from being a cricket bat and that LARP weapon safety is intrinsic in design and not just layers of added foam.
And who the hell votes on sites like this? I personally had no idea. Not me. Never knew it existed.

You think in this day and age people could frame a simple question like this correctly. Inches hasn’t been the official unit of measure in NZ for a bloody long time. It should be rounded to 75mm!

And the fact that 3 inches has substantially less syllables than 75 millimetres.
I would vote against this too.
Everyone knows it should be two inches of foam, not three.
Perhaps they’re saying ‘It’s not important enough to be criminalised, save that for drugs and murder’?
I say no foam, no go myself. I have been working on many foam covered things for Larp. The soup has been the hardest.
