48 Hour Film Comp 2013

Hi wonderful people!

I don’t know if this is an appropriate forum to raise this kind of topic. Please forgive me if it’s not! I’ve spoken to a few gamers and LARPers recently who’ve mentioned they’d be keen to be involved in the 48hr film comp though they aren’t on the right mailing lists or never hear about the event until after it’s happened etc. I was just wanting to make sure no one who wanted to be involved was left out. Thus this is basically a post to gauge interest from the Wellington roleplaying community as to who may wish to be involved in a 48 hr film team/teams this year, and in what capacity.

I’m interested in heading the scriptwriting side of a team this year and helping organize a group. I’m nominating Norm as director of my team because I’ve been hassling him to direct some of my script writing friends’ projects for quite some time. I know Jon was interested in camera at one point so this is your opportunity to nominate yourself for cinematography Mr Ball, or else flick me a message if you’d rather not post here.

Anyone else interested or know of someone who’s interested who doesn’t access diatribe? Feel free to contact me in other ways if this isn’t your preference for communication!

Love your work and love you all!

Hannah

The Chit-chat forum is the right place for anything non-larp, but let’s leave this here for the moment so it gets the attention of some Wellingtonians and then move it there.

So can you please tell us when it is? [BTW I’m not thinking of muscling in on the Wellington team, just want to mark it on our calendar to avoid potential conflicts, and you seem like a font of all knowledge in this regard. ]

Thanks, Ryan!

Re your question of dates, Hannah, unfortunately it’s almost impossible to plan to avoid a conflict with the 48hour film competition when pre-booking LARP events. The reason being is that, while the 48 happens nation-wide every year and has done for years and years…the dates are not set until closer to the time. Last year’s filming weekend was 18-20th May. It could be any weekend in May or April unfortunately.

As to what the event is:

v48hours.co.nz/2012/about/

48 Hours is essentially a short film competition where thousands of film teams around New Zealand make short films within 48 hours (7pm Fri- 7pm Sunday). Teams get their given genres on the Friday night and everything from storylining, scripting, shooting and editing is done within that 48hr window before submission of the finished product on Sunday night. Films are then screened in city heats which go onto city finals. The winners of these make the national finals. These are screened on TV.

If you were wanting to get involved there are hundreds and hundreds of teams where you are in Auckland, Hannah. We have quite a few in Wellington also. Understandably, there’s quite a cross section of creative people involved which is why it may appeal to role players.

Sorry I can’t be more specific with dates!

I hope 2013 has started well for everyone and I look forward to seeing many of you at KapCon soon!

Yeah, I think the past two years it’s been the weekend before Teonn, which always makes for a busy week or two!

I’m happy to help in a behind the scenes capacity, I have roomy wheels for transporting.

I can operate a camera, rig lighting, fetch V, make coffee (qualified barista), cook / bake, make pancakes etc.
I can be that annoying extra that requires multiple retakes (not really :p)

I’ve always wanted to help with a 48 hour film cos I love watching my friends’ ones, but with the way things are at the moment I’m likely to have kids in tow and only be available for a few hours at a time (and before 8 at night, and possibly not until 5 on the Saturday if the boys have contact)… But given those constraints, if you can think of anything for us to do, it’d probably be an awesome experience for all 3 of us (James will be >8 by then and Tom nearly 6 so they are almost getting to a useful age too). Anyway, let me know if you think it could work (I promise I won’t be offended if not)

I’d love to be involved I can totes do costuming! Or acting!

Anddd… it’s official, Shoot Weekend is Teonn Weekend this year.

man it would be awesome to be involved in you team for 48hours… other end of the country but still awesome

For those who wanted to be involved in the Jenni’s Angels 48hr film team who aren’t on the google group, this is just a message to say Jenni’s Angels aren’t going ahead with a team this year due to the clash of TEONN and the 48 falling on the same weekend.

Thanks to everyone who said they were interested on here and those who messaged me. Maybe next year. I’ve joined another team for 2013 (and there are plenty of them around) so feel free to do likewise… or take a well deserved breather than weekend!

I’m looking forward to seeing you all soon!
