Sewing/crafting bee: 14 August, Central City

Hey all, we have a confirmed date, time and venue for the sewing bee discussed here: Sewing/crafting bee - stitch-n-bitch

When: Sunday, 14 August
Time: 12pm-4pm
Where: Tangleball - 27 Edinburgh Street, Newton, Auckland CBD

Thanks to Augur for setting up what looks to be a cool venue! We’d like to ask everyone who attends pay a gold-coin koha in appreciation of letting us use the space.

If you get lost or otherwise need to get in touch with someone on the day, ring the “Tanglephone” on 022-069-2047.

Note: You’ll need to find your own parking, but it sounds like there’s a loading zone at the front that’ll be available if you want to drop off your sewing machine/gear before looking for parking.

Other note: I can offer lifts into town if you’re located between Titirangi and the city (and rides back!)
Thanks to Augur for setting up what looks to be a cool venue!
I’m just a member there, and I wasn’t really involved in setting the makerspace itself up. It’s a great place though, and it’s nice to see it being used more. We have lots of different groups there, such as Tumeke Cycle Space (who fix bicycles), Urban Kitchen (who help city-dwellers establish gardens in their apartments), and many computer-related groups such as the Auckland Linux Users Group, OpenStreetMap, etc. We’re trying to get more craft-related groups to make use of the 'space, and last month’s ZineFest was a great start to that. I hope Auckland LARPers will make a lot of use of the makerspace in the future. It would be great to run some prop-making workshops there, with liquid latex casting, for instance.

Bumping this as a reminder.

It’d be lovely to get an idea of who is considering coming to this. Who’s keen?

As long as mums okay that day I’ll be there

Sounds awesome - wish I could be there.

i might pop along i do have some sewing to do,will there be music or tv to jam out whilst sewing?

Augur might now about the music, but there’s certainly going to be entertaining conversation happening!

I’ll be there, coming from Mt Wellington/Ellerslie way if anyone needs a lift.

Cool! Also, if anyone needs a certain kind of tool, supply, etc feel free to post here in case anyone can help you out.
i might pop along i do have some sewing to do,will there be music or tv to jam out whilst sewing?
We have some AV gear down there but you’re most welcome to bring your own as well. There is a TV and DVD player there, and the overhead projector (although not sure if it connects to the DVD player).

I’ve got a little portable cd player, I’ll bring that with me

I have to cancel, alas. I have bridesmaiding duties on that day (mmm…cake…)

I discussed this NZLARPS “stitch-n-bitch” event at the Tangleball team meeting last night, and it has the official nod from them. Here are some pictures of the 'space. (Warning: these pictures are quite large.)

[ul][li]The cosy craft area, showing the comfy seating, some zines that have been made already, and a selection of zine-making implements.[/li]
[li]The lounge area, showing the comfy seating, TV and DVD player, and the wall screen for the overhead projector.[/li][li]The computer and electronics area, showing the 3D printer (RepRap) that is being built, and some robots. We have wireless internet access available for members.[/li][li]The workshop entrance, showing some of the tools we have available.[/li][li]The kitchen area, showing a batch of Tanglebeer being brewed. This is a private project of one of our members, and is just one possible use for this space.[/li][/ul]
We also have a gas BBQ (photo) available which can be dragged out the front. If someone wants to bring their own full 9KG gas cylinder, or give me some money to get one of ours filled, we can run the BBQ. I’d be quite happy to cook whatever you bring along, sausages, steaks, whatever. You’d probably need to organize some bread and sauce if you want to go down this path, too. We have plenty of plastic cups for both cold and hot drinks, but plates are in short supply at present. Also, a Tangleball member who brews his own homebrew (known as “Tanglebeer”) has donated a bottle of his finest for this event. It is currently chilling in the fridge at Tangleball.
I’ve got a little portable cd player, I’ll bring that with me
That would be great. I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday, whoever can make it. Sorry to hear you won’t be there Anna, but have a great day anyway.

A reminder that this is on tomorrow, so start thinking about what you’ll be bringing to work on.

GMs, if you’ve got non-secret prop stuff that you need help building, this might be a perfect opportunity for you to wrangle your volunteers and get a chunk of work done.

Final reminder that this is happening today!

Also - please bring a gold coin for koha

Thanks for coming along and making use of our space. If you didn’t get your costume finished, or weren’t able to make it today, or if you want to make other LARP props, the Tangleball community workshop is open as follows…

[ul][li]Tuesday evenings from 7pm-9pm[/li][li]Wednesdays from 10am to 4pm[/li][li]Saturdays 2pm-3pm[/li][/ul]We also have a big open day about once a month, and, of course, you are welcome to join up as a member yourself. Membership of the workshop involves a subscription of $15 for a week. You can pay for as many weeks as you need to use the space for, for a particular project. Or, like me, you can just take out a perpetuating membership for $15 per week and get your own key to the makerspace, which you can then use at any time.

We’d love to see you down at Tangleball again!

Thanks for having us. What a cool space.

So many tools!!!
