The Wild Hunt (larp movie trailer)

That film looks interesting and a much more level depiction of LARPing… quick look on the Facebook page says it’s been in production for “years” though so probably not any time soon, if it’s not in fact the world’s most elaborate hoax

An interesting looking film. Looks like it has Stone Golem’s brother staring in it.
I’ve been trying to get hold of this film. It’s available on iTunes, but only if your account is set up as a US account. Trying with a NZ account fails.

It’s interesting that people believe it casts larpers in a bad light. It could equally be said that it casts males in a bad light; or Canadians.

I’d like to get this movie and watch it. All welcome.

It’s only US$16 on iTunes.
If you do get it, I’m very interested in seeing it.
Probably NSFW and kids…

Sorry if this has already been posted, I haven’t been reading the forums lately.
What the Fuck? This is so anti gamer it’s not funny. Creepy is one word, shit like that would NEVER happen in NZ!

BTW I found a site that streams this…

Thats legal, right? at least for us to watch, streaming is ok? its the hoster that potentialy in breach, right? Just want to check that before I post a link

Edit: Yep I was right…its legal according to netsafe.org.nz.

Edit: Removed on request.

Please remove the link, Cameron. Regardless of the legality or otherwise of people streaming copyright movies, Diatribe containing such links could get us in trouble with our host. In general, our policy is to avoid legally grey areas like this.

this movie is about 1.33 long, i stopped watching at 1.05, this film is disturbing in the extreme.

i suppose its because of my combined history of witnessing violence towards women and being a LARPer but it is hugely trigger and i would advise anyone with P.T.S.D or a history of exposure to violence to watch this film with caution.

that said, its beautifully shot, costumes are awesome. desperately in need of comic relief scenes. and i love the subversive nature of it, it starts out at a white knight macho circle-jerk, turns into a reality check, ironically, set in a LARP.

Thanks for the review, Zanni.

It’s… yeah. I made myself sit through the entire thing and it’s not something I would ever care to see again. The protagonist is difficult to sympathize with and little or no explanation is given for anyone’s actions, it’s all very “bad sh*t happens when people get overly invested/caught up in their imaginary world.” And even though people feel horribly about it, I’m not sure that anyone really learns a lesson or anything, which makes the whole thing seem kind of pointless.

So, if I may ask, are the horror elements caused by people getting too caught up in an intense scenario?

As opposed to a bunch of bad apples perverting an innocent pastime, or supernatural juju?

For me, it was chilling because at the start you laugh at how ridiculous some of the characters are, but you can see every step of their psychological decline as they immerse themselves further and further into their imaginary world. There are so many points at which poor decisions are made that don’t seem like a big deal at the time but that really contribute to the final outcome. There’s so much that you recognise (though in far more extreme forms) in the characters and the decisions they make.

But, the horror/thriller aspect of it aside, some of the most recognisable characters are mostly comic characters. For the first two thirds or so of the movie there is a lot of comic relief, so when things get serious you really feel it.

I liked it a lot. It has its flaws but overall it really impressed me.

Eta: also the costumes are awesome.

just bad apples,

it also fails the Bechdel Test

and, excluding tokenism for ‘comic relief’, it has 0 characters of color.

and yeah nobody learning anything anything from it kind of freaked me out.
