The Great Captain Debate
Yeah but, the Ships’ Doctors

Dr Leonard McCoy - snarls, patches, mends, falls in love, delivers babies to women who could break his neck and, when Khan Noonien Singh held a scalpel to his throat, calmly faced the maniac down while suggesting better cutting technique to get the carotid artery. Because McCoy is bad ass.

The EMH - Um, fussy? Great drive to become human?

Dr Simon Tam - very, very pretty. Also, good to his sister, and learning how to tote a gun.

Dr Steven Maturin - short, scrawny, deft hand with a foil and a pistol, once performed life-saving surgery on himself, demonstrably able to keep a beautiful woman happy in bed, passionate naturalist, and once removed all doubt that he might be a Secret Agent Guy by the sheer ineptness of his (sincerely given) speech to the French naturalist society. Also bad ass.
Am totally with you on Maturin!!!

Best Doctor is Dr Helena Russell.

10 points to anyone old enough to remember the show without having to resort to Google :-0)
 thanks Mandos, i’ll try not to spend them in the same shop

My favourite is Tama Te Kapua, legendary captain of the Te Arawa fleet. He was clever, and persuaded the local Saruman-equivalent to accompany the fleet on the journey to Aotearoa (to wit, the tohunga Ngātoro-i-rangi, who was instrumental in the success of the fleet’s safety).

But I would say that, I am of Te Arawa descent.

Still, the next time you visit Mairangi Bay, you may wish to reflect on the fact that it was named after an even earlier ancestor of mine: Ohomairangi.

:stuck_out_tongue: Always be proud of where you came from.

Is Ohomairangi linked at all to the naming of Te Ahumairangi in Wellington? I live on that hill.

Yup.

Does it have to be Captains specifically? Only Shepherd is a Commander…

There’s always Captain Anderson, who’s almost as awesome as Shepherd.

I’m sure he was a captain at some point, that has to qualify him.

I play Shepherd as a woman - it’s so weird hearing her referred to as ‘he’

Ok, what about Captain Jack Harkness? I mean, he’s got an awesome coat and he’s immortal!
