That sounds good in theory, but in practice I’ve seen candles left unattended a few times in larp. Larp is just so unstructured, it can be hard for the last person in a room to realise they’re the last person and should put out the candles.
There was a fire at the last Multiverse game. Not a massive one, but it can happen.
Like I said earlier, the biggest problem for us with using real candles is that most of our venues now have smoke/heat detectors. The risk might be minimal, but NZLarps doesn’t have the budget to deal with false alarms and the callout fee that results. Fake candles are a good way of getting the atmosphere without the risk of game budget blowout.
My local $2 shop (a “DollarSave”, FWIW) had sets of two “christmas decoration” electric candles for $2.99. Requires 2 AA bateries each, but that shouldn’t be a problem if you have access to a recharger.
I’ll post a photo later.
Thats what I’m asking. What are the call-out fees and our liability at the venue?
Eg: If we accidentally burn down Motu-Moana what are we up for?

The SCA uses candles at Motu Moana every even we have there.
Only in the halls (not the bedrooms) and we don’t fight inside
We’ve never set off an alarm.
We do, though.
Fair enough, I know it’s pretty unlikely a tea light candle is ever going to set off a smoke alarm.
