“Pirates” (working title) is now taking applicants for the new reality TV show from the makers of Survivor and The Apprentice. 16 contestants will be chosen to set sail on the high seas and embark on an adventure in a remote location in search for hidden treasure worth one million dollars. The series will be 14 episodes long and will be filmed over seven weeks in March and April 2007.

Contestants will all be 21 years or older, American citizens or living in America, with excellent physical and mental health. They will be outgoing, strong willed, adventurous, adaptable and have interesting lifestyles, backgrounds and personalities – ideally with some sort of wilderness survival skills.

Among the many questions in their application forms, potential contestants are asked which one of these characters do they relate to and why:

Long John Silver, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, The Lone Ranger, Batman & Robin.

They’re also asked to choose a pirate name that best describes them.

Oh, fabulous. Just we need. More inane reality TV.

Even a theme of pirates does nothing to redeem it in my eyes. :unamused:

just 2 main issues as to why most of us wont be able to go on:
● All contestants must be 21 years or older at the time of application.
● All contestants must be United States citizens and be living in the United States.

Actually if you’re wondring about age, most of us are older than 21.

There was a dreaded Pirate mentioned at my last game. Arsebeard. that would have to be the name I took if i was to enter such a show. Do you get to name your boat as well?

Pirates are such a fashionable thing now that no wonder everyone around is trying make money/rating/whatever on them.
Are these shows really so bad? I never watch them so I just don’t know :unamused:

I was a pirate before it was cool.

Eventually trolls will be mainstream and overdone too.

one issue is that some NZ tv company will try to copy this as they did survivor, (nz is to poor for the amazing race rip off)

so we can expect some crud version to be out in a while.

I remember Treasure Island being on TV about 6 months before Survivor was filmed, so I figured Survivor was the rippoff.

Actually, our treasure island was a rip of the british treasure island.
