Making a Larp Documentary

What we started some three months ago feels only like yesterday but I’m proud to say that today we completed our final render of our documentary and it is officially completed and ready for hand in. Thankfully with only minor technical issues.

Personally, even after looking at it for about four weeks (during the editing process) I am still not sick of looking at it and I really am quite pleased with how it turned out. We’ve gotten a lot positive feedback from teachers and it’s generated quite a bit of interest among the students as well. I got an excellence mark on the written concept/pre-planning part so hopefully will achieve well in the practical part too. I couldn’t have done it without everyone’s support and I’m hoping you’ll all want to come along to the screening.

Date is not confirmed but will most likely be on Halloween (31st October) which will of course mean that costumes are a very feasible option. More specific details and confirmation to come later.

Are you planning to stick it up on youtube as well???

Call me lazy, but I’m … lazy

Hehe yeah, Anna had already made big plans to post it far and wide so you can rest assured you won’t miss it.

Only after the screening though, no sneak previews.

I wrote briefly about it in the latest Immersion (Spring '08) and can now definitely confirm that the screening of the documentary will take place in a month on 31st October at 7pm. So, to confirm, reinstate and clarify:

  • Venue is Selwyn College Theatre on Kohimarama Road, Kohimarama (Auckland). Any confusion, I can give more specific directions if you’re directionally challenged like me or from a different neck of the woods.

  • Yes it is Halloween so costumes are welcome (but not mandatory.) I know I will be dressed up in any case.

  • The screening will be of the Year 12 media studies horror films and year 13 media studies documenaries. They usually kick off with the horror films which last around and hour to and hour and a half with a short break between. I can’t confirm exactly when they will begin screening docos but it will probably be difficult to sneak in whilst screening is in progress. I will however say that the horror films too are worth seeing.

  • There is no confirmed finish time but my estimate is around 10ish…?

  • To my knowledge there is no charge for entry. It has always been free in past years and there has been nothing this year stating otherwise.

  • As I have stated before, following the screening it will be posted on the internet.

Any questions can be directed my way. Who’s keen?

Hey guys, Judit’s larp doco is being screened as part of Selwyn College’s media studies film festival. This is a really great opportunity to turn up in costume and recruit from the very fertile recruiting soil of Selwyn College students and their friends.

It’d be cool to see a bunch of people from the community to go along and support the documentary (I’ve had a sneak preview - it’s worth supporting) as well as hand out fliers

Looking forward to it, will definitely be there. Now I just need to decide what to dress up as.

And Judit finally got around to uploading this doco to YouTube, so it’s available to view:

That’s a high school project? Pretty amazing quality.

The fast cutting between interviews was excellent, it gave a real sense of a broad range of opinion without getting bogged down in one person talking for a long time.

The sound is mono in places, especially with Anna’s interview, which probably wouldn’t matter so much through speakers but it’s a bit odd with headphones having a voice only in one ear.

Nice one.

Yep  Judit and her project partners got Excellences.

It’s certainly TV quality*

So T.V quality production values, but believable dialogue and plot?
