How do you make a larpsafe whip?

Despite all these safety precautions, I still don’t think it’s viable as a weapon. Not because of safety issues, but just because a whip wasn’t really used in combat (historians, correct me if I’m wrong)

I think we might have moved of weapon talk maybe… for me anyway, I just think it would be fun/interesting to make.
Would be handy for period games where prisoners/torture/punishment was required I suppose.

Yeah but the kind of thing Derek is describing can bought from Geoff’s Emporium for $3 around Halloween.

One of the best suggestions I can think of for reducing the speed of the tip is to not make the whip narrow down so much - its the narrowing that produces the higher speed (I forget the exact physics though). The downside is that also tends to prevent the cracking sound.

Oh really!? Awww… thats no fun :frowning:

well yea the crack is because the end breaks the sound barrier, so… speed. At that you could always make a cracking sound yourself although not as powerful as the real deal, but hey, it’d be reall awesome to have a larpsafe whip in a game sometime.

has images of…

Jarak: [swishing of whip] "Crack!!!"
Random PC: “Where!?!?”

If you’re whacking someone, the crack can just be the slap of whip hitting flesh. Or so I’ve heard…

Oh dear. I had a dreadful thought.

You all know BDSM is just another type of live roleplay right? :open_mouth:

Those involved dress up, take on character roles and generally (from what I have read or heard) they have rules of play which those involved are aware of and have thereby agreed to.

Yep, its LARP, Jim. But not as we know it.

I bet the character sheets make interesting reading…

There is also the danger no one has brought up with flail weapons.

IF it gets tangled alot of force can be transmitted back along the weapon with one little tug…

Any one remember the cultist that dislocated his tentacle shoulder in mordavia? Thankfuly a whip isn’t attached to your arm but that amount of force would just pull the whip right out of your hand, making it a projectial…so make sure that handle is larp safe too :stuck_out_tongue:

On the subject of whips not being viable weapons, I found this online the other day and thought it was interesting. It discusses a weapon called an Urumi used in the Indian martial art Kalaripayattu. The weapon is a long highly flexible sword that is used in a similar way to a whip.

sigh
And I was hesitant as to whether or not say what I was intending the whip for :open_mouth:
Yes, I know it sounds a bit strange as a weapon, but I thought it could work as a blessed weapon of Lord in StW, handled by a nun… Nuns with swords, nun with axe, why not make a nun with a whip?
But I do see the point in lack of safety here, so the “blessed whip” isn’t an option.

P.S. So when is that BDSM larp and who’s running it? :smiling_imp:

Learning about a whole new side of lucy

A darker, edgier, leather clad side :stuck_out_tongue:

Ah, so it’s you the GM for it?

So we’ll be needing a LARP safe paddle too huh?

LARP safe cuffs, chains, straps, and spike heels… hmmm this could get tricky:)

NO NO NO you forget all those objects are suitable within the rule set of BDSM!

Its like one of those weird euro larps, were anything that heals within 2 weeks is permissible!

Argh!

erm… there was no forgetting… was just kidding. Feel free to take a deep breathe and chill out now
