How about that Hindenburg?

That mass combat with the gangsters looked amazing from a distance, it really seemed like there was a fistfight on. Did the one-on-one combat system work out okay even though there were so many of you?

How did everyone find play-acting out fights? It looked like you guys were having fun with it.

And did anyone get their ass ultra-kicked by Ultraman?

Actually the mass combat went REALLY well. We all kinda shrugged and said “take turns” at the same time, and it worked amazingly. I think the best part is that it really is so simple (ie you either win, lose, or kick ass) that you get through the resolution so quickly there’s now break in the flow and you can focus on acting it out - and nothing beats acting out a huge brawl

Derek laying Vanya out earlier in the evening was also particularly awesome, it just flowed

Oh yes, I owe Porl an apology and a thank you. With time running out I attacked him with my cigarette holder and forgot to stop for rock/paper/scissors first. I was secretly kickass, but turns out so was he! I have no idea why he then volunteered just to go down instead of doing the r/p/s with me, but it made for a fabulous ending to my story and caused all kinds of drama since half the people there saw me do it. So, thanks Porl! I did remember the combat rules for the other times!

I completely missed the brawl with the gangsters and Ness as I was in the infirmary playing Dr 'Bones ’ McCoy trying to cause a ruckus about the bomb and arguing with Jim about whether Edith Keeler had to die!

Ah well, I may not be able to play in it again, but I betcha I can run it again!

That scene was complete surreal for me. I was standing there, crying over Robert’s death, while arguing with Sarah (Spock) that it is completely inappropriate for me to do a speech right now considering Roberts death and then all of a sudden I hear from the other side of the table from Dr Bones:

“Why must Edith die?”

Very cool Fraser.

Yeah… I just walked up to him and it was like we both went SCISSORS and then I went SCISSORS again and he foolishly went PAPER and then down he went…

Epic!!!

:unamused:

It was just the way you rolled up and started the punch first, and the r/p/s was over and you were straight back to the follow-through. No real break, a super intense moment of “does it work” as you powered through the “1,2,3. 1,2,3.” and some awesome roleplay of the hit on both sides

The big gangster fight at the end was one of my favourite parts of the game, especially being the one that instigated it by selling Capone out to Ness as we landed on the runway (“His ledger is in his jacket.” “Right, let’s go!”) Also, standing a couple of meters away, stamping my feet in frustration that Al and Frank were totally kicking ass because I knew if Ness lost, Capone knew who’d sold him out and I was dead. Damn

Marion Ravenwood was such a good friend to me! Thank you, Lucy, for some wonderful roleplaying opportunities, and trying so hard to save me from my wicked man Capone, and for introducing me to that honourable Elliot Ness!

Malu as Polly Perkins, who was working with me to bring down Capone in exchange for the story and a chunk of the cash. I meant it when I said I’d have honoured my promise. If I’d managed to take over the Chicago outfit, you’d have been my number one reporter, I’d give you all the dirt on the other guys in exchange for glowing reports of me in the papers. Oh and money. Lots of money. Pity it never came to be :frowning:

Hamish as Elliot Ness - you were fantastic. I had a lot of fun roleplaying with you.

And Michael Carter, a bit of a larp newbie, who did such a wonderful job as the creepy Frank “The Enforcer” Nitti, spending most of the evening being a huge pain by tailing me. He also solved several plots, and was really involved. Out of the three people gunning for the ledger, he was the first one to it. Good work, Michael!

I had a wonderful moment with Hymie Weiss, when she came over to me. I’d heard nothing but bad things about Capone the whole evening (a lot of people tried to save dear sweet Evelyn from the clutches of the bad man) and his mortal enemy, returned from the dead after being murdered on Capone’s orders, is the first person to say anything nice about him. I was so gobsmacked that I just stared at her.

Another favourite moment was when Charlie Chaplin started hitting on me, taking me by the arm and saying “I’ve finally got you away from your chaperone!” and spent a couple of minutes chatting me up before asking, “By the way, who was the man you’re here with?” “Oh, him? That’s Al. Al Capone.” “Al Capone? I gotta go.” I’ve never seen anyone beat such a hasty retreat. He practically left a trail of dust.

And I almost hit post before thanking the most important person I roleplayed with all night. Dave, you made an amazing Capone, you looked fabulous, you played the part, and played it clever. I loved the wonderful scenes where we both professed our affection and loyalty to each other, both of us lying through our teeth at that stage, but managing to sound completely sincere. Bestest mobster ever, and I was proud to be your conniving moll  Thanks for an awesome evening.

“You an’ me, all the way, baby, all the way…”

Aww shucks. I reflect those sentiments right back at you Anna. Your dress was gorgeous, testament to the time and effort put in. I really did have fun touting you as “my girl” (“doesn’t she look boodiful, Frankie?”). Hopefully Tigger won’t hold it against me  And the playing was amazing - for the first half of the night I honestly thought things were going to go the other way and you’d be my loyal moll to the bittersweet end

Personally my best moment would have to be when someone yelled bomb and we all ran out of the hindenburg. My character just stopped and went ‘who told?!’ then ran out with everyone else with the bomb still in my bag. I wouldnt have really blown all you lovely people up, promise…

Someone who saw a different timeline where your character did (accidently) blow it up told.

Oh - how do your photos look? And did the video work? I’d love to get a copy.

Hi, I know I don’t usually post here but I thought I’d give my 2 cents about the Hindenburg game.

Costumes were all totally amazing. It was great to see such an effort made. I was also incredibly impressed at the decorations and props. I’m not sure if I should ask where all the Nazi decorations came from. The projector was a great idea and really helped with immersion into the game. Overall I was highly impressed with all the organisation that obviously went into the game.

Unfortunately though I didn’t really enjoy the game very much. I played Greta Garbo, and I felt the character was very weak. Her goals were superficial and she had barely any connections with other characters. I’m usually a strong roleplayer, and I can have fun with even weakly written characters. However I struggled to find anyone to even talk to as so many other people were very busy with their own goals. When I did find others not involved in their own plotlines, they were in a similar position to myself, and so we really didn’t have anything to talk about. I’m not sure how many people felt like I did, but I know that a least a couple others did.

Writing a game for this many people is a huge undertaking, and I completely recognise the need for some characters to be able to be dropped if there are not enough players, and so there has to be some secondary characters that are not intregal to major plots. But these secondary characters still have to have enough to do if they are played. If this game were to be run again, I would strongly suggest some tweaking of these secondary characters. The basic concepts for them were good, and I don’t think they would require too much to make them a lot more enjoyable. Not every character has to be a major one, but they do all need enough to keep them occupied.

Anyway, I could write way more on the concept of secondary characters but this isn’t really the place for it. I did want to throw my experience out there though. Judging from other people’s reactions I’d say the game was overall a success, just for a few of us it could have been better.

Any specific ideas on how to beef Greta Garbo up?

It’s a shame Clark Gable wasn’t there, it’s intended that you two spar a bit during the night…

Yes, I do have some ideas of things that could improve the character, but I don’t want to thread jack. Would you like me to pm you with my thoughts when I have some time?

Thanks for posting that about Garbo, exactly what I wanted to know on this thread. Please do post suggestions for improving the character here, this isn’t a love-in it’s for pros and cons and ideas.

Hey, I have a question.

Did the Hindenburg blow up?

On Saturday, no. :stuck_out_tongue: The bomb call was a fake. (there was a bomb but it wasn’t set to go off, Nicole still had it in her handbag)

What about the bomb under the podium for Edith Keeler?

Pretty sure no bombs were triggered, but I guess Fraser or Ryan should confirm. After all, Edith was disintegrated by Kirk, so there was no need to blow up the ship.

There was one bomb that was intended to be under the podium but Ollie decided not to set it. I think the confusion arose because I ran in as Dr ‘Bones’ McCoy yelling about a bomb.

So, no, the Hindenburg didn’t blow up.

I make no apologies. That kind of confusion was exactly what we wanted to happen.

As far as confirming that during the debrief… I think we GMs were as confused as anyone as to what happened during that last 5 minutes.
