Games for Chimera 2010

The American in the corner is almost afraid to ask.

I really want a pirate game, and a Jane Austen-esque Napoleonic game.

I’m just throwing that out there, that these would be awesome genres for games as far as I am concerned. Not that I’d get to play, but still.

That UK Freeform site that Ryan has been linking to mentioned a game called Railways and Respectability which had Austenesque features…

I’m going to do another Wolfgangs game next year, again not campaign related and written well before saturday night.

Joel I’d totally play in the hostage game, especially if I get to be a counter terrorist (the Rainbow Six fan in me would have a field day).

If no-one writes one, there’s a pirate game among the Freeform Games scenarios.

We have access to a beach at Motu Moana too, if that would suit as a pirate venue. It’s at the bottom of the cliffs, with forested paths leading down to it. Technically it’s a public beach, but there is usually not much public use of it.

A couple of friends and I plotted out a really awesome Jane Austen game for about 6 players (with potential for others added on). It probably won’t make it up to 20 players, which I think is the chimera standard. Austen doesn’t usually have many protagonists…

lol! you’re joking right? she has written so many works that there are easily enough protagonists for a twenty play game, I can think of at least four protagonists in Pride and Prejudice alone. I’d love to hlp with a game lik this, though i thought Anna was merely suggesting a game in that era, not specifically Jane Austen characters/plots only, which opens a whole new range of options… Come over and see me Daphy! We’ll have a chat. hugs

I was toying with the idea of doing an Austen era game, but hadn’t really decided whether to go for an Austen novel style match-making and manners game or whether to bring in darker, gothic/supernatural elements. Let me know if you do decide to write an Ausen game and I’ll make sure that I’ll do something that’s a bit different in tone.

Sorry - I should have clarified. It’s not a game with Jane Austen’s characters. It’s a game in the style of one of her books - which usually only have (as Zara says) about four major protangonists in any one book. SO what we have is 6 - 3 women and 3 men, which are key to the matchmaking-type plot.
Some of them are in love, some are secretly betrothed/married, some are pretending to be someone else’s brother/sister, some have wealth but little class, some have class but have fallen on hard times, there’s unrequited love, and everyone’s angling for a wife/husband. Not to give to much away, but we are talking Austen here - her typical plots are well known! Potentially we could add on some characters who would be more secondary but could still have a lot of fun - people’s mothers, father’s aunts etc (why, oh why is it always the aunts!)
No supernatural/occult elements at all, just a romantic comedy

I totally second the “really want” part, and I will add gangsters larp to that. Please.
And me will get to play that, so count me in please if you are running that sort of thing.

Actually, I had a thought on this. You could have some extra roles for people who get blown away early, like the twin sister who turns up behind the police cordon. The reporter for the local rag etc, the janitor who was fixing something in the basement and walks out into the middle of the hostage drama…

Getting blow away could mean you just make a late entry as another character.

Is that Rick Ashely just below james earl jones?? (On the far right?)

I’d completely forgotten about it (it even had the things like the shot hostage turns up on the other side of the cordon).

Anyone want to volunteer to help with writing the HighSchoolPorn… err, Prom LARP?

I’ve started writing in a Wiki (same way Great Exhibition was developed) and can easily give access to someone who wants to co-write. steve@steveshipway.org or post here…

there is easily room for more characters, and not just meddlesom family members. you could add an element of business and money, intrigue (perhaps even a little murder) to make it slightly larger. Also you want a few different romance/family plots, all intertwined. it couldeasily be a 15 player or more game.

I’d be interested in helping write a larp like this, if you would like help.
