Design Diary: Stolen Crown [name subject to change]

Not yet - there has been procrastination. But the bit I’ve done already has used the system in The Kyme Summit (which was in turn inspired by the one in On Display) for inspiration. And that works fine for a simple question of “can you win a civil war”.

The Black Hart of Camelot has a “who wins the civil war?” mechanic as well.

Worked out a system for deciding whether Ash keeps the throne. Slept on it, liked it, wrote it up. Slept on it again, and now I hate it. On to version 2…

Ran the game yesterday, and it went OK, but also had several flaws. I got some very useful feedback from the players, including suggestions for extra characters to add, and I’ll be working on it after giving it some time to ferment.

What mechanic for Ash Keeps the Throne did you end up using?

Based on Toil and Trouble, with Radicalism Points and Tyrant Points. Too many of each, and they get overthrown.

I’m still not entirely happy with it. But it sortof works.

It was a really fun game and there was a good sense of political royal courtroom to it, with people embodying easily read characters, and enough content to chew over without feeling rushed or thin.

I’m glad you felt our feedback was helpful.
