Chimera 2011 Speculation

Hehe, we should have realised you already had it under control.

And then as it scales up, you can re-run older Chimera flagships for a new audiance as well.

Warning bells started going off early this year that the flagship tradition as we’ve been doing it will soon be untenable. That said, I do appreciate all the ideas being thrown about here, and I am taking them on board.
On reflection, I think the current approach of capping the size is probably the best policy. It allows for controlled growth of the con over the years.

While there’s a part of me that would love to see the con (and the community) grow in an unlimited manner, controlled growth is better for quality control. It means we can ensure games fill up, the flagship writers know how many players to write for, we maintain a high proportion of experienced larpers at games to help show the way, and you know in advance how many people you’ll be dealing with at the venue for logistical purposes like food, sleeping, mustering, etc. It’ll be disappointing for people who miss out, but there is always next year and other larp events.
You guys know that old cartoon gimmick of the people who are building the train tracks as the train bears down on them and they have to keep building faster and faster so the train doesn’t derail? That’s me with Chimera  Almost as important as Ryan’s points, the controlled growth also gives me the chance to try and update the Chimera logistical infrastructure to cope with the growing numbers. Unfortunately, I chronically underestimate Chimera’s expected growth, so I’m in perpetual danger of being hit by my own train, but the next set of logistical upgrades I have in mind should sort us until we hit 200 or so people.

Now that I have read everything about the growth of Chimera since 2010… I realise that if you are capping it I had better go register, which I almost did a couple of days ago but I was trying to find a list of games and genres being played so I could pick and choose which days I wanted to attend (or all days) so can anyone steer me in the right direction for that info so I can join the swelling numbers before you tell me I missed out on Chimera 2011 :open_mouth:

Descriptions of the LARPs on offer are here; http://nzlarps.org/chimera/larps.html

And Anna has posted which games still have spaces available here; http://www.diatribe.co.nz/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=6071

Ta Tog

Here’s a thought - run the flagship on two consecutive evenings with the same characters… on in-game consecutive evenings.
So the premise would be some kind of two day event, one set of players for the first night and another set for the second night. The character sheets would be exactly the same (same background after all), but the two groups would talk to each other between games so that the second player gets updated on what their character did the night before. Groups who are especially cohesive could also get together to share info, so that the new players know what their group was up to last night and how the goals have changed etc. The second set of players effectively get to play the same scenario, but the problem of spoilers isn’t there. You’d have to do the big debrief and reveal at the end of the second game, but at least people have someone to squee to about the cool stuff they saw/did.
