BattleCry 2006 Larp Game

February 11th and 12th, 2006
Freemans Bay Community Hall
(2 days of gaming events including war gaming, card gaming, roleplaying, board games and larping)

Saturday night there is a Live Game called Exodus.

“They knew it was coming.
For three days the acolytes had been chanting, voices ragged, spears thrusting defiantly up at the sky. The chiefs, locked in fervent discussion, hadn’t come out at all; not even to murmur a soothing assurance to their people huddled outside. Even the children were quiet, held close by their mothers. Occasionally a baby would whimper, the cry quickly muffled by a firm embrace, and then silence prevailed again. All else was forgotten as they sat, waiting, praying. On the fifth day It came, suddenly. Spinning it’s brilliant light over their upturned faces, scattering everything with sand. The sound drowned out all else, even the frenzied acolytes with faces strained with pain and determination. The chiefs themselves stumbled out, against the lashing wind, and all eyes rose to watch as it descended.
They knew it was coming.
But they never knew what it would bring.”

Danielle (ran the 1930’s larp) and Alex (runs the In Nomine larp) are the storytellers of this larp.
To play in just this larp, it costs $5. If you are taking part in any of the other BattleCry activities, it’s cost in included in the weekend/day charge.

For more information on the larp and BattleCry, keep an eye on our website info@theamericaclub.net.nz

So, going by what I read on the site - to sign up for the Saturday night game, we fill out the form and pay at an AMERICA meeting before the 30th of Jan - have I got that right?

Yup, or you can post the form with money to me. The address is on the form. And if you want to make doubly sure, you email me your name and I add you to my “half pre-registered” list so you book your place

Clear as mud, really

Hi folks,

Update on the Live Game - Exodus. There is a page just about it, on the BattleCry site here theamericaclub.net.nz/live2005

It would be appreciated that when you pre-register, you indicate whether you want to play a Primary, Secondary or Tertiary storyline character, and indicate your experience larping by either Newbie, Some, Expert sort of status. This information is so the storytellers can assign a suitable character to you.

There will be a max limit of 50 people, and the Primary characters will be assigned first, where possible, so be in quick to pre-register. 16 days left before the 31st of Jan. And you don’t have to pay with your pre-registration, you can just pre-register for the cheaper rate, and pay on the day, so we can assign you a space/character now. Only thing will be if you pre-register and don’t turn up, we will still want your money

Menolly

Bags a primary character.

I would rate my LARPing experience as medium-high.

Cool, noted on my list. Thanks.

Would be cool to have a banner ad for Battlecry on here.

What is a banner ad, and how do I do one?

Those graphics up the top right of Diatribe are banner ads. Like this:

I feel somewhat embarresed that both the banner ads on Diatribe right now are related to me, I’d love to see some others, cos it looks like a monopoly. Maybe I’ll throw one together for Og.

Basically it’s an animated GIF image. You can put them together in software like Fireworks or ImageReady. If that doesn’t mean anything, then get someone with a bit of graphics experience to throw one together. I’m sure NZLARPS would be happy for you to advertise here on Diatribe, seeing how you’ve given them stall space and all.

What’s the deal with putting up banner ads? Can anyone send one in? Is there a charge?

Steph

I can’t speak for NZLARPS or Diatribe, but I think it’s fair to say that there isn’t a solid policy.

Yes. To the webmaster, Craig (Exquire).

I don’t think so for NZLARPS projects. For games that have no relation to NZLARPS, there will probably be a small charge.

Actually, I don’t know how to put 'em in. I noticed this in the folder

But where do you go to turn these on or off?

I think that the policy on banner ads is that you can have one if either:

  1. it advertises an NZLARPS project event (eg, Mordavia)
  2. it is part of an affilliate agreement (eg, Paddywhack)
  3. its advertises a game that the committee feel important enough to give free advertising to
  4. you pay money and it is for something LARP-related (to be agreed)

In cases 2-4, though, the current (lack of) policy means that it has to be passed by the NZLARPS committee. (1) is a bit of a grey area but I think we could get enough Committee members to OK it.

Cool. I don’t know if we have anything like a banner ad in the pipeline. I’ll ask our web guru and point this discussion to him and see what he says.

Thanks for pointing this out, I hadn’t even thought about banner ads.

I think we can give banner ads to any LARP event, and affiliates where agreed. That’s just what I think.

Edit the template header file… “/templates/FSGreen/overall_header.tpl”. Add another item to the Javascript array, and update BANNER_COUNT. It’s basic but does the job. A better alternative would be to add a banners table to the database and have it editable from the Admin console, but this does the job for now while banner turnover is low.

I’ve added the Og “Smelly!!” banner to the rotation.

Karen, I can throw a Battlecry banner together for you if you send me text and any images you want to use. Text needs to be very brief.

Also, I’d like to register for the Exodus event. I don’t mind what sort of character I play.

Is the form available online somewhere? Alternatively, can I just tell you that I’m booking for the larps and transfer $5 somewhere?

Completely off topic, right now it’s raining so hard outside that it looks like pea soup fog.

EDIT: Never mind, I found the registration form.

I’ve noted your name from here. I haven’t checked all my email, but will email you details. Just paying on the day is fine, we mainly need names of people who are going to turn up, so characters can be assigned.

Weird, when I look at the Diatribe pages I don’t see any banner ads as all. Is this a forums setting I’ve turned off, or just me?

Look in “Profile” at the top, check that “Board Style” is set to “FSGreen” rather than “subSilver”.

Otherwise, it could be anti-advertising software on your browser blocking banner-shaped images.
