Auckland RGM Candidate Profiles

If are standing in the upcoming Auckland RGM, you may wish to post a candidate profile in this thread.

Hi, I’m James Cooper, standing for Auckland Regional Treasurer.

As I understand it, the primary duty for a Regional Treasurer is to monitor and discuss the finances of the regional branch with the rest of the regional committee, and provide financial advice and scrutiny to project organisers. I believe that I should be quite capable of doing this, as I am quite a financially focused person, and to the best of my knowledge I am familiar with all current project organisers, as well as everyone else standing for the committee. I personally do not have any particular plans or visions for the Auckland branch, beyond it continuing to stay financially viable (and hopefully continuing to grow), but I believe I will be able to provide useful input into the plans of others.

I believe I have am reasonably well qualified for the role. I hold degrees in both Accounting and Commercial Law (which don’t necessarily mean that I will already be familiar with something that pertains to the Society, but should ensure that I can learn very quickly). I have helped out with organisational matters for NZLARPS in Auckland at times, and moreover this year helped with the running of Chimera, in particular processing the payments received for it. I have also just become the National Treasurer for the Society.

I am based in Auckland, have no expectation of moving out of the area in the next year, and expect to remain active within the NZLARPS community.

Hi I’m Prema Cottingham and I am standing for both Secretary and General Officer.

I have been larping now for about 5 years, and over the past few years have been thinking about getting more involved with the behind the scenes of NZLARPs, because I think its such a fantastic organisation supporting/cultivating the larp culture in NZ. In RL I work as an administrator, and there are many skills I have learnt through that, that I think can be applicable for being on the committee.

In terms of secretary, I am a experienced minute taker and so would enjoy this role as I’m sure the committee meetings are much more fun than the regular old meetings I’m used to taking minutes for. In terms of general officer, I am willing to pick up the odd project and think I will bring a different perspective to discussions, particularly with my experience last year larping in Germany for a couple of weeks, and the fact that I will be a fresh face on the committee. I also live in Auckland, and am not planning on moving within the next few years at all.

Another reason why I was interested in joining the committee is that I am looking to co-run a campaign in Auckland in the future and thought it would be a great experience to see how others are run from NZLARPs perspective, and see exactly what is involved before embarking on one.

In either role, if voted in I look forward to contributing to this wonderful organisation.

Just also a note that unfortunately I won’t be able to make the RGM on the day (I was able to make the original date), hopefully this won’t dissuade you from voting for me.

Hi I’m Hannah, and I’m standing for Regional Director for Auckland this year.

I am currently on the committee (as Auckland Gear Officer) so will have continuity with the current projects and issues this year’s committee have been working on. I will step down as co-treasurer for the Crucible project, as I see there is potential for conflict of interests. I think the directorship needs to be neutral, basing their decisions on the facts that are presented. I will aim for a consensual approach, seeking & listening to lots of people’s opinions, especially if some heavy stuff comes up like previous committees have had to deal with.

I’ve been larping since 2007 (and have a couple of teenage children who are getting involved too) but have been tabletop roleplaying since a couple of decades before that. I like helping behind the scenes to make games I enjoy playing in. I’m looking forward to bringing the Auckland NZL committee to the next level of professionalism we need with greater numbers of people involved.

Hi there

I have been involved in NZLARPS since its conception and stood on the very first NZLARPS committee and several since, so I am experienced when it comes to being on the committee itself. I am a GM of the current flagship of NZLARPS, Teonn, which I got involved with to help improve the logistics of the game. I feel strongly about the committee supporting GMs, potential GMs and the society’s manifesto which is to help promote, support and grow larp in New Zealand. I believe that the flagship larp is currently one of the biggest vehicles driving the growth of larp in New Zealand, and therefore I am looking forward to working with the Crucible team and supporting them.

I would like to be the Gear Officer because in my experience, the gear is the most valuable asset that NZLARPS has (other than it’s members) and with Crucible set to break even more limits in crew and player numbers, the gear library is going to grow. So far we have been relying on the generosity of our members to house the gear in a shed at their homes, but I feel strongly that the gear needs a permanent home, one that is big enough to allow for growth, is well insulated to protect our asset and is accessible. This most likely means we as members will have to pay a little bit extra for games to incorporate this cost, however I intend to fully explore funding options as well.

If I dont get gear officer I would like to be on the committee to support the gear officer as a general officer.

Thanks

Nikki

Allen Shaw here,

I’ve been nominated for Gear Officer.

I love LARPing and making things.
Someone thought I would be good at organizing the gear.
I’m happy to give it my best.

I have no experience with the committee and I haven’t been LARPing as long as many others, but I’m happy to be included and to represent the community on the gear front.

I’m going to be running some workshops for making gear for larps like the Crucible regardless of getting the position so there will be more gear to sort! Any offers for a space to host these workshops would be awesome. (PM me!)

I’m happy to be a supporting role as well in the nomination for general officer. And even if I don’t get an official title, I’m still here to help with the community! LARPing is fun!

Hi I am Rowena Knill and I am standing for secretary and general officer.

I believe that I will be an asset to the committee. I have been on the committee several times before, as secretary twice and currently as the Auckland marketing officer. I can bring experience to the role of secretary, and in my previous time on the committee I have seen many situations arise and be dealt with, and I have learned a lot. I am well aware of the duties involved in being secretary, and I strongly believe in the importance of communicating all committee activity (both from meetings and from online voting) to the society in a timely manner.

I have been larping since 1998, and am very dedicated to the growth of larping in general and NZLARPS in particular. You may know me as one of the GM’s for Teonn; or from one of the Chimera flagships that I wrote and GM’ed - Happily Ever After and The Great Exhibition; or one of the several Vampire larps that I have run over the years, the most recent being New Horizons, which was NZLARPS first monthly World of Darkness project.

If I am not elected as Secretary, then I would like to still participate on the committee in the role of General Officer.

Thank you.

Hi, I’m Clare, and I’m standing for secretary.

I have been larping for 10 years.

Over the last year I have served as the secretary for the Auckland Regional committee. One of my aims
during this time was to ensure the minutes for the meetings gave a full and accurate description of
the discussion points and the issues that arose at each meeting, and I think I have achieved that.

I would like to serve as the secretary for the committee again this year. But I would also like to
wholeheartedly support both Rowena and Prema, as I believe they are excellent candidates and would
perform this role well.
