20mm PVC pipe

I don’t specifically want a small maze, but I think that being able to pop up an “indoor” space anywhere at a venue is a great asset for a larp. Whether it represents a tent, a building, whatever.

You may be right about the advantages and price of gazebos.

It’s hard to go past something like this 3x6m black gazebo with movable interior walls and adjustable height for AU$220:

Exactly the kind of thing I was looking for about a year back.

Far more portable and storable than making our own in PVC too, it packs down to a smallish carry bag.

As someone who’s worked at/still part time at Mitre 10, plumbing section, I can advise that the ‘20mm’, which will be the pipe’s internal diameter, is fairly bendy. Many rigourous tests whilst at work (playing around with short polearm sized lengths instead of working cough), have shown me this. You’ll find that the reason ‘white pipe’ is better, is that it’s the thicker walled pressure stuff. The problem I run into when designing three dimensional structures out of the equipment at work is that we have the plumbing gear, and as such, a three way tee means that the maximum number of pipes that can be joined is only three, and in a planar arangement. This could be altered if someone is handy with some strong PVC glue and a fine blade, and wants to manufacture fittings out of the existing, however.

I can help out get discount at the Onehunga Mitre 10 if we do get some form of PVC pipe project going.

OK. So, I’m starting my trip Tue 21st. I will be passing through Hamilton on Wednesday morning.

Jared, is that likely to work for you?

If so, could you PM me your address and phone number?

So the next question is, how much of this should be brought to Auckland?

We need to know by Tuesday night realistically.

So can someone decide how much piping (if any) NZLARPs wants me to bring up. And if I am, should I drop it at Hamish’s on my way through?

Cheers,

As much as you can safely and comfortably transport ? More = better, and there is ample room in the gear store.

Thanks for volunteering to do this, Norm

There are some instructions here for making larp buildings out of PVC or metal tubes and tarp:

Not much on how you lay the tarp over the rods, but Rob would probably be happy to elaborate.
