2012 Secret Santa wish list thread

Dear Santa

You asked me to post here and introduce myself

I don’t have any characters, because I like to crew. But one of the things I enjoy most about LARP is that it inspires me to draw. So if you happen to have pencils or pens or sketch books, those would be amazing.

I also love sweet things or snacky things. And Pandas haha

Thanks Santa,
Che Crawford

Dear Santa,

I don’t believe in you, but I don’t see why we should let that get between us, or at least between you and giving me free things.

I’m playing a lot of one-off 3 hour games and I’m in one campaign as a soon-to-be-married steampunk gypsy. I don’t own a lot of leather (other than corsetry and boots etc) so anything like pouches or belts or leather accessories would make me exceedingly excited.

Otherwise the costume things I’m looking for this side of January are red and gold fabric/brocade, gypsy/steampunk bling and Victorian medical gear. I’m sure Anthony Doornebosch could advise if I’ve missed anything. Otherwise there’s always gypsy yum as a fallbac ( Ie. Whittakers Berry and Biscuit). Warning: This may or may not be consumed in one sitting.

Dear SS

For Christmas this year I would love some larp related stuff, I currently play an Ovidian Mage Mercenary and a 1930’s archaeologist who’s slowly losing her mind and has a growing affection for guns :smiling_imp:
Otherwise I have come back from Germany with a penchant for big scarves  and chocolate is always a winner especially white chocolate
Please don’t send me anything with coffee, marshmellows or anything pink

Thank you in advance

Michelle Burt

Dear Santa,

If you’re inclined to get me something for larp, I play the pirate most widely known as Captain Kate (Teonn), and I play a 1930s occultist linguist that’s seemingly permanently attached to her occult tome (Witch House). Homemade stuff is awesome, but I know not all Santas are crafty. Not unlike a magpie, I like most anything shiny, especially costume jewellery. I have a fondness for interesting trinkets. I also love anything to do with H.P. Lovecraft and his Cthulhu Mythos, and I think steampunk is very pretty. If you’re inclined to bring sweets, I like really dark chocolate best of all. Please do not give me alcohol

Thank you very much in advance for your time and effort, Santa!

Hey SS,

I don’t play many regular characters, but like Steampunkery, Victoriana and gypsy-ish genres.

Not into ā€˜girly’ stuff, or useless ornaments… and would always go more purples, blues and golds, than bleurchy pink or beige.

Actually, I do seem to lack Victorian-looking jewelery.
I would love to get a chance to be a Water Elemental in a Teonn game before it’s all over, so feel free to feed this longing.
Would also love some non-modern looking cutlery.
Also have a recent penchant for fur (as long as nothing endangered died specifically for me), so recycled / vintage is cool… and interesting feathers
Anything Masonic-themed (except actual masonry!).
Gold ribbon or trim.

Back-ups: Chocolate-wise I’m more ā€˜pale and sweet’ than ā€˜dark and rich’; and I’d go more ā€˜fruity’ than ā€˜nutty’ (apart from peanut butter chocolate which somehow breaks the natural order of things in my nut-phobic world due to it’s salty/sweet deliciousness!)… oh, and Russian / Vanilla fudge

Oh, that was actually fun! I thought my missionary ancestry would haunt me and tell me I’m not allowed to say what I’d like… but I did! How liberating! There you are SS - you’ve already gifted me with a lovely experience, so any ACTUAL gift is just a bonus

Hullo Santa!

There’s nothing specific I need, I just like surprises! I suppose for guideline-type things, I’m quite fond of bright colours, but also of leather (though unlikely at the same time…). I like quirky things, but not purposeless things (things that just sit on the shelf to look pretty). Pockets are wonderful. I like the Steampunk aesthetic but am fairly lacking in appropriate props and ornamentation myself. An always-appreciated fallback is stationary/calligraphy paraphernalia. I love bookbinding, though haven’t yet learned it myself. As for edibles, I’m not a fan of sugar and don’t eat grains, which probably makes things fairly tricky on that front… Anything that showcases a particular talent of yours would be more than welcome as well - I am endlessly amazed by the magical skills of this extraordinary group

Eeee, excitement! Haven’t caught up with you for a few years now, Santa - 'Bout time!

dear larper,

put your prezzie in the post today, you better be a good little larper or it will turn into coal! or a loss of XP or something.

I was just wondering if people could please post their first and last names on their posts haha?

Because when we got sent our secret santa names, it wasn’t their diatribe names. And some people have the same first name

Good idea Che, i’ve edited mine to add that in

Or if you don’t want to put your full name on the internet, maybe a first name and last initial. Or maybe even just your initials.

Dear Santa

I have been a very good crew member at the big larps this year, could I please have a chance to play in one?
But more realistically the sorts of things I would like this Christmas are:

Something to hold a sword on a belt.
Arcane looking props for magic using characters
Other such neat and interesting things to use as props

I know you will be able to find me something cool.

Thank you Santa

Jack Benson-Rea

Dear Santa

I’ve been a good boy, cus I was allowed to go to Teonn.
What I would like for Christmas is to see a Teonn: Wellington campaign set up in the future…
or even Teonn: Auckland, Teonn: Wellington, Teonn: Christchurch
or something similar

other than that, I’m all good…
well I could really do with leather wine skin like prop

Thank you Santa

Mat Gritt

Just a reminder - that the Wish List Thread is for people who signed on to the Secret Santa thread in Nov. Sorry if you missed out this year! I try and start these in Nov to give people plenty of warning.

On that note - if you haven’t shipped/arranged to get your gift to your recipient, please do so sooner, rather than later, to ensure they get their gift by Christmas!

And if you’ve received a gift, don’t forget to thank your Santa on the ā€œthank youā€ thread so they know you received (and enjoyed it).

Thanks heaps,

Jackie

And also, if you have signed up, please post here. Its difficult to make/buy stuff for people who haven’t said what they want, and there’s a high danger of just getting chocolate if you do not express a preference.

There’s nothing wrong with giving chocolate/wine or non-specific gifts. While it’s nice to be able to give someone personalised gifts, that’s not really the point.

This is a nice, friendly, low-pressure chance to do something nice for someone in the community. If you can give them char-specific things, great! But otherwise, don’t sweat it. Give them thigns that 99% of larpers would need/use at a game, like cool LED candles, IC journals, blank books, writing implements, pouches, scroll-cases, real candles, small lanterns, feasting gear, a cool goblet…
