Announcing Chrono Continuum! + First Game!

Postby TimeTraveller » Tue, 15 Dec, 2009 11:15 pm

It's my pleasure to officially announce my brand new campaign LARP; Chrono Continuum!

Chrono Continuum is based on a Super Nintendo game released in 1995 by Square Enix called ‘Chrono Trigger’. It takes place in a world similar to earth, with eras such as the prehistoric age, where early humans and dinosaurs share the earth; the Middle Ages, replete with knights and magic; to the post-apocalyptic future, where humans and sentient robots struggle to survive. The characters will frequently travel through time to obtain allies, gather equipment, and learn information to help them in their quest.

GMs are myself, Blair Purkiss (TheMuntaMan) and Matt Moore (Matt).

First game will be a day game. No date set although we are aiming for sometime in the first quarter of next year. For now, enjoy the rulebook and come up with some ideas. If you have questions, feel free to post up here or PM me and I'll be happy to help

Rulebook is Here: Here

Facebook Group is Here: Here

Enjoy!

*Edit*: Chrono Continuum Game 1 (Name TBA) Is going to be on Saturday the 6th of March. I am looking at an approximate 1pm start, but that is subject to change. Location to be announced.

Start Submitting characters if you're interested in PCing. Crew will also be much appreciated.

If you have any questions about rules or need help with anything, feel free to PM me or Matt or send an email to the email address provided in the rulebook.

Interesting setting. Are you going to encourage an anime look like the game, in terms of costume and hair and stuff?

You may want to add an acknowledgment of the original game's authorship and copyright.

My only suggestion would be to simplify your nerf combat.
Do you really need to call your target if you are using a nerf weapon?
It could be as simple as Bang 2 to dictate solid projectile and damage.
It seems a shame that you need a bulky call used for symbolic shooting (i.e. star wars/serenity) when you in fact have a projectile system.
You could go one step further and make standard damage for nerf guns (say 2) and standard damage for primitive missile weapons (1). Or standard damage all round.

The lazer thing makes it a bit more complex of course, so the question is, do you need a weapon that always hits when you use physical projectiles for other damage forms? Magick CAN break these rules of course because a resource is depleted to empower them.
Just a thought.

Alternatively you could use nerf guns for lazer weapons also, use Bang/Zap to differentiate and perhaps give lazers a higher damage rating? You could even spray lazer "projectiles" a different colour to make it visible (say by using fluoro colours or glow in the dark paint).

Otherwise it looks good to me. Kind of complex but no worse than other sci-fi systems (this is not a criticism just a point to note). In other words, if I could find time (ironic word use) amongst everything else that demands my attention I'd certainly give it a go.
If you run at Chimera, I will certainly put my name down for it as a primary choice.

One other point, your magic stones idea could be altered to allow a more portable mana source. Coloured cards would achieve the same function and have some significant benefits. This leads on to a card ripping system, which removes the need for an IC and an OOC mana pouch, as you rip the card to spend the mana.

So yeah, are you planning on running at Chimera?

Interesting Ideas

The rules are going to stand as they are for now, until at least after the first game. The call added to the nerf round is essentially for those who are wearing armour. someone wearing chainmail isnt going to feel a nerf hit on them. And it also helps indictate to others the damage caused (as well as a large bang sound to frighten the early humans hehe)

As for magic, The stones will work better than cards for three reasons, 1) they are reuseable, 2) they provide a slightly longer casting time than ripping a card, and 3) they wont blow away in the wind when recharge piles are made on the ground.

The coloured bags will also help with looting dead mages.

As for chimera, I dont think there will be a CC game as I'm already writing a superhero one, but if it gets popular and I get asked, I'll definately consider it.

Umm, Im not going to specifically encourage it, but some aspects of it may come out. Costuming is up to the players!

Cool. One of the nice things about existing worlds is they often have an interesting distinctive visual look. This definitely looks like one of those settings, and you may be able to attract cosplay/anime fans with the look.

Ok, through discussions with Matt and things that have been brought to our attention by players, there are a couple of rules in the rulebook that will be changed. They are as follows

 [Magic] Restore – 6 XP – (3 White MP) – (Requires [Magic] Heal) – Restore either repairs 2AP on damaged armour or repairs a Robot, restoring them by 2HP. The effect is one of the other, both or a split of the effects is not allowed

Should read "The Effect is one or the other"

 Transferral of MP to others

This was not mentioned in the rules although it has been brought up by a number of people. Matt and me came to a decision. To give MP to other people, it must be roleplayed, similarly to how MP is gathered from the ground. It costs the GIVER 1 MP of Any colour to give 1 MP of any colour to another awakened player. The recipient MUST be awakened or have spell knack. To clarify, transferal cost is 1 MP of any colour to give 1 MP of any colour to another character.

 [Positive Quality] Elementalist now costs (x+1) XP where x is the number of elements you currently have. This replaces the current cost of 2 per element. This means a second element will cost 2XP, a third will cost 3, fourth 4 and the final element will cost you 5 XP. You can buy the elements in any order you like.

Hey guys -

I'm looking for someone interested in playing a relative of mine in game (either future or past). I guess you'd have to be human of some sort for it to work, but I think it'd totally make for an interesting roleplaying experience. So, it sounds like fun to you, send me a message or something. Yay for Chrono Continuum!

just a quick question, is interracial breeding ever happen/possible? I can see at times it would be completely out of the question socially, but does it ever happen?
Knightshade: Mara Maristella - a budding bard with magical twist, Iltherin by birth, human by upbringing.
St Wolfgangs:"the cutest vamp that you ever did see" aka minion of satan
Chrono Continuum: Lady Avalon - damsel-in-distress, adept screamer.
Serenity: Captain Adelaide Carmichael of The Paragon.
