Songs for a Bloody Valentine

Stephanie Dosen - A Lily for the spectre

youtube.com/watch?v=wImSfbPxdQI&feature=kp

Reminds me of the fairy pools, of Lily’s sister, and of Zek’s death.

Lyrics:

I’m waiting,
I haven’t seen the ghost
And am I really here at all?
I’m silent, I’m the moon
One eye open,
I’m waiting, waiting.

I swallowed a knife
I hold it in.
And every single time I breathe,
I cut a bit of me.
And it leaves my heart open.

I feel you
My spectre yet unseen
Did you get the lilies I sent?
Did the violin that played
Make it’s way through the gauzy curtain?

Come find the place where the curtain is thin.
Wink at the watchman,
And he’ll let you in

I have two for Esther. She is a character who always seems to climb back up from whatever has knocked her down (through sheer stubbornness, if nothing else), and I think the first is a good summary of her state over the entire session- It’s determined and hopeful and quietly steadfast. The second is angry and a bit desperate. More the Esther-right-now song.

Also, ‘Last Song’ by Jason Webley has become the Zek Memorial Song in my mind. I haven’t yet found one for Margaret.

Lewy’s is Death Cab for Cutie’s I will Follow You Into the Dark.

I have two, but this is the one I think of most.

This had been my song for Lily and Jack since game one.

(cf: viewtopic.php?f=162&t=7848#p98749)

This song I chose for Dahlia from the beginning but I feel it suits last weekend. I found myself singing this on the weekend to myself when I was chained up.

Lead Sails and a Paper Anchor by Atreyu
Song is found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyRvO8xfMAI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Trvpvai7Gs0found an acoustic version. Not as powerful as the original I feel.

Marching along, like a good soldier does
I’m setting sail, with anchors holding me down
Pack up my bags, stow them away
I’m bidding farewell to all that is safe

Will I come up for air, come up for air
After awhile the current is calling me
Lulling me, waving goodbye
I’m out here alone, oh God can you save me now?
Sinking my heart turns to stone

Withering away, a shrinking violet dies
So full of life, these lights they’ve dried me out
Into the sea, I needed a drink
I never thought this would consume me whole

Will I come up for air, come up for air
After awhile the current is calling me
Lulling me, waving goodbye
I’m out here alone, oh God can you save me now?
Sinking my heart turns to stone
(I turn to stone)
Sinking my heart turns to stone
Save me, take me home
Over and over again
Save me, take me home
Wishing that this all would end
Save me, take me home
Over and over again
Save me, take me home
Wishing that this all would end

After awhile the current is calling me
Lulling me, waving goodbye
I’m out here alone, oh God can you save me now?
Sinking my heart turns to stone
After awhile the current is calling me
Lulling me, waving goodbye
I’m out here alone, oh God can you save me now?
Sinking my heart turns to stone
Sinking my heart turns to stone

Save me take me home
When I come up for air
Save me take me home
When I come up for air
Save me take me home
Over and over again
Save me take me home

Wishing that all this would end

33AR generally:

youtube.com/watch?v=q4egb2gpIg4 (I sang this quietly to Harriet at some point over the weekend Steph).

#99/Echo:

youtube.com/watch?v=7-Yj6q2DLps (ok this song is about a dog but for some reason it reminds me of her)

And this is a song Nik sent me soon after #99 was created, so it is my #99/#74 song:

I’m very partial to this video, which features some amazing bike skills by Danny MacAskill, who is originally from Skye. The music used is alo very cool, and the first song especially apt for 33AR, I feel. Parts of the videos were also filmed on Skye, which looks amazing and like it has some locations that would be brilliant for LARPing at.

Here is the song that plays first on the video, in full.

I’m usually quite bad at trying to pick theme songs, but I think this one suits Kali:

This sums up Ivy right now.

I had only heard the original, I will listen more to this when I can

Lovely song. I shall look at smiles from Ivy in a different light now.

Actually a lot of good & appropriate songs there.

These also seem appropriate. Linking to the Danny Macaskill because then you get the cool song with the cool video.

Band of Horses - The Funeral

I also think this is an awesome song for Kali’s new demon killing skills: Kill of the Night by Gin Wigmore

This reminds me of both 33AR and Sunset in the Silver city from Hydra:

Whenever I think of Hanover these days, it’s usually connected to The Killers’ ‘Goodnight, Travel Well’:
youtube.com/watch?v=lLLCVb-7oZU

The odd-sounding beat during the verse sort of reminds me of rain on a tin roof, and then the lyrics are the closest I’ve heard in a long time to a musical emotional collapse.

I’ve been listening to a lot of The Decemberists lately, and ‘This Is Why We Fight’ always puts me in mind of 33AR:

youtube.com/watch?v=-rFfRo0SRAg

Lyrics:

Come the war
Come the avarice
Come the war
Come hell

Come attrition
Come the reek of bones
Come attrition
Come hell

This is why
Why we fight
Why we lie awake
And this is why
This is why we fight

When we die
We will die
With our arms unbound

And this is why
This is why
Why we fight
Come hell

Bride of quiet
Bride of all unquiet things
Bride of quiet
Bride of hell

Come the archers
Come the infantry
Come the archers
Of hell

This is why
Why we fight
Why we lie awake
This is why
This is why we fight

And when we die
We will die
With our arms unbound
And this is why
This is why we fight
Come hell
Come hell

This is why
Why we fight
Why we lie awake
This is why
This is why we fight

When we die
We will die with our arms unbound
And this is why
This is why we fight

So come to me
Come to me now
Lay your arms around me
And this is why
This is why
We fight
Come hell
Come hell
Come hell
Come hell
