Movie outing: Serenity charity screening

Tomorrow night there is a charity screening of the Big Damn Serenity movie to help raise funds for the charity Equality Now, as part of a world wide event called Can’t Stop The Serenity.

Saturday 23rd June
Academy Theatre, in Lorne St under the Central Auckland Library.
7:30pm shindig in the theatre bar, 8:15pm we enter the theatre.
Tickets are $13, and they are on sale now at the theatre or get them before the show.

We have loot which we will be raffling, auctioning, and giving away as spot prizes. There are prizes for the best female and male costume. And one lucky NZ will have their name in the international draw to win a berth for two on the BrownCoats Cruise.

There are 50 screenings happening in 7 different countries and it’s all raising funds and awareness of a great cause. Check out the website for more info.

I can’t believe i didn’t hear about this until now (being the fire-fly obsessed fan that i am!) what a great idea. I am going to try my hardest to make it!! :slight_smile:

:slight_smile: I’m guessing you don’t know about the Browncoats_NZ yahoo group then either… we are also planning on a themed shindig in October to raise funds for the 2008 event… more info on the yahoo mailing list as it comes.

There is prizes for costumes tonight, Serenity/Firefly theme :slight_smile:

And the shindig hasn’t been decided on yet. Most likely Serenity/Firefly related as well. Plan is to begin discussions a wee while after tonights event.

Is anyone planning a LARP with this world / theme? Or is it copyrighted or something? I just thought it would easy intro for new LARPers who already know the world.

There is the Stargate game, but, speaking from experience, finding good venues for futuristic stuff is very hard.

yes I am, I got in contact with a group in the UK called Too pretty to die who kindly gave me permission ti use their stuff, and their helping me get materials and copies of their rules together. I am currently waiting for some gm stuff.

I run a game called Nibelungen which is heavily influenced by the Firefly 'verse. Hoping to have a day-game in late September.

I’m happy to run other sci-fi events inside the Nibelungen venue. I should flesh out this thread here…
